There’s a chill in the air and the snow is falling, which means it’s time to get in the holiday spirit! There’s no better place to jump into the festivities than at Sylvan Lake's Winter Village. This holiday light show and displays kicks things up a notch with over 300,000 twinkling lights on the Sylvan Lake Pier.
Each year, the Spirit of Sylvan Committee's Sylvan Lake Winter Village takes over the Pier nightly from December to March. Imagine memory-making, glittering strolls under twinkling lights and you’ll have an idea of winter in Sylvan Lake. Walk the trail around the pier, lined with glittering archways and holiday displays. It’s an Instagram-worthy walk!
The Winter Village can be found at Lakeshore Drive and 50 Street on the Sylvan Lake Pier.
Along with the twinkling archways, check out 45 mini-Christmas trees dotting the path, each sponsored and decorated by a local business.
There’s something for the whole family from great views to races chasing the moving lights while Mom and Dad look for the perfect holiday photo. One weekends, the dancing light show is set to music!
Skating, Ice Fishing, Tobogganing and more!
When the lake is frozen and the ice is ready, a huge skating rink is lit up every night around a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Bring your skates and your sense of adventure. There are also lakeside bonfires every weekend to keep residents and visitors warm and toasty.
With skating, strolling, ice fishing and more on offer, Sylvan Lake is truly a snow-globe destination. Tucked between Calgary and Edmonton, Sylvan Lake is the perfect spot for a family get together!
Along with skating once the lake is frozen, Sylvan Lake is home to a quintessential Canadian activity – ice fishing! Equipment rentals are available from several providers in Sylvan Lake or bring your own equipment and try your luck!
There are also opportunities for snowshoeing on local trails and tobogganing on nearby hills. Leader Field is a popular spot for sledding on the corner of 60 Street and Memorial Trail.

Make a day of your next trip to Sylvan Lake and take in some boutique shopping before the lights turn on. Shop for unique treasures and curated wares at a variety of local boutiques downtown. Along with shopping, Sylvan’s many restaurants and coffee shops will keep you satisfied and in the holiday spirit.
