A Coffee Experience Like No Other
White Frog Café isn’t just another coffee shop – it’s a story in every sip. Owners Kelly McMillan and Ronald Contreras take a farm-to-brew approach, growing beans on their family farm in Colombia and roasting them right here in Sylvan Lake. The result? The freshest, most sustainable coffee in town.
Direct from Colombia to Sylvan Lake
“Coffee has been in my husband’s family for over 100 years, and we own a one-hectare plot of land in Colombia with over 5,000 coffee plants,” McMillan explains. “We plant amongst old-growth trees, which provide shade for the coffee plants.”
Located in Boyacá, Colombia, their farm started as a small project and grew into a thriving business. Today, White Frog partners with neighboring farms, giving them access to 10,000 pounds of coffee annually.
Beyond Fair Trade: Introducing ‘Fair Paid’
White Frog Café believes farmers should truly benefit from premium beans sold in Canada. That’s why they created their own certification: Fair Paid.
“Any coffee we bring to Canada from Colombia, we give the farmer $.25 per pound to invest back into their farm,” McMillan says. “Ronald is passionate about helping other farmers—they’re our family, friends, and neighbors.”
Sustainability Meets Community
When you order at White Frog, you’re part of something bigger. You can even support tropical forest rejuvenation by purchasing a tree for the White Frog Coffee Forest. 25% of each tree purchase is donated to a Canadian charity.
“Our beans were recently given premium grade,” McMillan shares. “People love our coffee, and we’re so thankful for the community support.”
Historic Charm Meets Modern Craft
White Frog Café is located in the iconic Stone House, built in 1913 – the same year Sylvan Lake was founded. Each stone was hand-picked from the lake’s shore, just steps away.
“Sylvan Lake is a beautiful spot for visitors and residents alike. We’re lucky to own the Stone House and its outdoor green space,” McMillan says.
Soon, guests can watch fresh beans roast in the café’s new roaster while sipping their favorite latte.
Summer Stylish Micro Weddings
White Frog Café isn’t just about coffee. This summer, they’re introducing micro weddings in their outdoor green space. McMillan, a certified marriage commissioner, offers intimate ceremonies in a unique, historic setting.
“It’s a great alternative and something truly special,” McMillan says.
