Day One:

A Journey into the Past

Follow the scenic route west toward Rocky Mountain House, where golden aspens and open landscapes provide a stunning fall backdrop.

Spend the afternoon exploring Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, where interpretive exhibits, historic buildings, and costumed reenactors bring Alberta's fur trade era to life. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking to enjoy the season, this stretch of Alberta offers plenty to discover.

After an afternoon exploring Alberta’s fur trade history, head back to Sylvan Lake to discover the stories closer to home. Step back in time with the Sylvan Lake & District Archives Interactive History Tour. Follow the map to 20 destinations from Sylvan Lake’s past, each featuring a QR code that unlocks a different Sylvan Lake Vignette and brings local stories to life. Start with Stop 1: Meet the Loiselles, then continue exploring the community one story at a time.

Day Two

Spooky Season by the Lake

On October 24, enjoy Downtown Trick-or-Treat, where participating businesses welcome young ghouls and goblins with treats. Take in the festive decorations, community spirit, and family-friendly fun that make this time of year so memorable.

Visiting After the Fall?

From November 1-7, wander the Pumpkin Trail at Lions Park, where thousands of glowing jack-o'-lanterns line the pathways, creating one of the most magical sights of the season.

After an evening of seasonal celebrations, wind down with dessert, a drink, or a nightcap at Sun of a Beach, then enjoy a peaceful stroll along the waterfront before settling in for the night.

Day Three

Harvest Stops & Historic Discoveries

Wake up to a crisp autumn morning and ease into the day with breakfast at White Frog Cafe, located in the historic Old Stone House, the oldest building in Sylvan Lake.

Continue to Lacombe, where history and small-town charm go hand in hand. Explore the city's self-guided Historic Photo Tour or Mural Tour, available through the Lacombe Museum, and discover why Lacombe is known as Alberta's mural capital.

With a blend of harvest-season charm, fascinating history, spooky adventures, and lakeside relaxation, it's a fall getaway that captures the best of Central Alberta.
