Carolyn Jerrard, Painter, Sylvan Lake

Carolyn's work of abstract expressionist painting uses acrylic paint, structural mediums, and water to combine movement in the paint, intrigue through texture and vibrancy in colour. The results invite the viewer to dive into another time or place, experience their own emotional reaction while being carried through the mystery of her pieces, often described as surreal landscapes. Carolyn is inspired by the colour palettes in nature, highlighting the depths and contrasts that surround us. Painting has been a part of her life since her teens but it was much later, in 2009, that she found professional instruction which helped fine tune her artistic sense. In 2013 she began to offer art for purchase.

Marshall Brown, Painter, Sylvan Lake

Marshall mainly paints landscapes in oil and/or acrylics. Drawing inspiration from nature and other artists ranging from the old master to contemporary artists, Marshall is generally a self-taught artist and participation in several summer series art workshops at RDC.

Lacie, Mixed Media, Sylvan Lake

Lacie uses oils, acrylics, and mixed media on paper and canvas. Having painted since she was young, she's been seriously pursuing it for the last two years. In 2021 she took an internship under a professional artist, and is a current student at the Milan Art Institute.

Learning fine arts and paintings with oils, acrylics, mixed media, and charcoal, many of her paintings have a person involved or a portrait, alongside some non-objective abstracts. Lacie is inspired by the freedom found in art, by good music, by a desire to give others hope, encouragement, boldness, and leave a positive impact.

Greg and Karen McKinney, Laser Engravers, Red Deer County

Greg and Karen got into laser engraving almost by accident. Taking life's opportunities as they appeared and living by their moto, "say yes and figure it out later," they have enjoyed the journey of entrepreneurship for 18 years and laser engraving since 2020. They draw their inspiration from listening to the customer. Their story, dreams and vision. Nothing drives Greg and Karen more than to see the project come to life to the customers' expectations.

Haley Tolland, Painter, Red Deer

Haley has been doing art since the age of 8 years old to use it as an escape from the world around her, and throughout her school years. Taking art programs and graduating with art honors from Lindsay Thurber High School in Red Deer, Haley continues to paint and draw as a way to express emotions and show feelings that can't be put into words. Haley also took part in the mural on the tower of the Red Deer Women's Outreach Center created in 2019 as well as continues to get her creativity out into the community.

SASART, Freehand Mixed Media, Lacombe

SASART was created with a vision in mind: do what you love and love what you do! Based in Lacombe Alberta, Savannah focuses on selling original creations, hired commissions, and teaching art classes & lessons. The artist loves to dabble in anything and everything art! Completely freehand and self taught, with a background that all started with bic pen illustrations from a young age. You will rarely – if ever – see any drafting or use of pencil unless requested! From there, branching out into as many other mediums, styles, subjects, and areas of art. You will often see her original works showcasing nature and scenery.

Carmen Therriault, Photographer, Sylvan Lake
Carmen has lived in the Sylvan Lake area for many years and has a strong desire to share her deep appreciation for natural beauty with others. Photography has become her mode of artistic expression; it is through the lens that she chooses to depict the world as she perceives it in her mind’s eye. Being outdoors, whether that be near water, in the mountains, or under the night sky, brings Carmen great peace and inner calm. If she can capture even a small part of her sense of awe and wonder oat the natural world, and thereby bring comfort and joy to those who view and experience her work, then she's achieved her ultimate goal.

Event FAQ

Q: Can I purchase tickets online ahead of the event?
A: Absolutely! Tickets are available for purchase online starting September 1.

Q: I've purchased my tickets online. Where do I pick them up?
A: Tickets will be available for pickup at the NexSorce Centre reception desk until XXPM on September 9.

Q: How many tickets per sample?
A: This varies and is set by the restaurants. Generally, items are 2-5 tickets each.

Q: I just can't get enough. Will food tickets be available on site?
A: You bet! Visit one of our Town of Sylvan Lake event tents and load up my friend. No judgement here! Tickets are available until 9:00 PM.

Q: I'm like SO into art. Will there be art for sale?
A: Artists totally have the option to vend! If you see something you love, just ask the artist if it's for sale.

MSNT, STENCIL ARTIST

Born and raised in rural Alberta, MSNT has lived in Sylvan Lake for the last 12 years. Working mainly with hand cut stencils, spray paint and acrylic paint, they began working with stencils almost 20 years ago. Drawn to print making; they liked the idea of making copies instead of just one painting. MSNT started with simple stencils and now enjoys the challenge of making realistic paintings.

HALEY TOLLAND, 

PAINTING, DRAWING &MIXED MEDIA

21 year old Red Deer artist Haley Tolland has been drawing since age 8, and used art to cope with stress and emotions. Graduating with honors from Lindsay Thurber high school, Haley has been part of the Women's Outreach Centre's tower mural in downtown Red Deer. Her biggest inspiration are her mother and grandfather who have believed in her work and capabilities, pushing her to continue on her path of doing art. Her main art mediums include drawing in graphite and coloured pencil, and painting in acrylic and watercolour.

CARMEN THERRIAULT, PHOTOGRAPHER

Living in the Sylvan Lake area for many years, Carmen has a deep desire to share the surrounding natural beauty with others. Through her lens, she depicts the world as she perceives it in her mind's eye, finding novel ways to communicate new concepts and open people's eyes. Spending most of her time close to home at the onset of the pandemic, Carmen learned to see her own backyard with fresh eyes. Everyday views became her "canvas." Taking on a personal project of photographing nightscapes, Carmen always finds her time under the night sky calming and feels compelled to share these beautiful experiences with others, and perhaps even inspire others to step outside their comfort zone to enjoy the night!

MARINA THOMPSON, SILVERWARE ARTIST

As a person who could never look at the world without seeing pictures and images within everyday objects, transforming antique silverware and fine China just seemed to be the natural thing to do. Where others see an everyday fork or a spoon, Marina sees an octopus or a mermaid's tail. Beginning her journey as a silverware artist in the summer of 2013, Marina is self-taught, learning through trial and error. Moving from the beautiful mountains and foothills of Alberta to the vast farmlands and pastures surrounding Sylvan Lake, Marina's art is her life. It feeds her soul and provides a comfortable living.

CARMEN WINTER

FINE ART, PAINT & COLORED PENCIL

Central Albertan artist and musician, Carmen Winter has been creating and working in and around Central Alberta for 13 years. Her current body of works entitled “Musical Hands” is a collection of realistic depictions of Sylvan Lake/Red Deer musician's hands while they play their instruments, set against a background of antique sheet music. Debuted in Red Deer in January of 2021, the collection will be showing in Saskatchewan this fall. Inspired by realism and studies of the human figure, she has expanded her skill, medium, and styles to adapt to an assortment of commissions. Carmen has worked with EPSS to create a member generated mural and “The Geishas” mural on Little Gaetz in Red Deer. Carmen’s work has appeared in Red Deer, Germany, BC, and Saskatchewan. Carmen resides in Red Deer and works as a part time music instructor at the House of Music in Sylvan Lake. She spends her spare time going on adventures with her toddler and Bernese Mountain Dog pup.
