JANUARY


New Year’s Fireworks

January 1
Fireworks to celebrate the New Year! Starting at 7pm with horse-drawn carriage rides.

Family Skating & Sledding Party

January 20
An afternoon to spend outside sledding down a hill and enjoying skating on a community rink with special guest characters. 


FEBRUARY


WinterFest

February 16
A popular event with the polar bear dip! Enjoy a weekend with the WinterFest activities, including Alberta’s Family Fishing Weekends when everyone can fish without a license for an Ice Fishing experience. Enjoy free hot chocolate, skating and more!

Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Club Ice Races

February 17 & 24
Provincial and National Ice Races are being held on the lake for the 2019 Alberta Oval Ice Racing Championship Series. ATVs, motorcycles, quads, and bikes will be racing throughout the day.


MARCH


Kites on Ice — A Festival of Colour

March 16
A celebration bringing in the arrival of Spring and closing the cycle of Winter through cultural activities of Holi, kite making/flying and wind/ice sports. A festival full of bright colours and outdoor wind/air activities on the ice.

Paint the Ice!

March 23
Where paint and graffiti meet to paint the ice! An afternoon to come out and bring your inner artist and creativity to explore making creations on the ice.


APRIL


Downtown Easter Egg Hunt

April 20
An annual chocolate Easter Egg hunt with activities at participating downtown businesses. Easter eggs hidden throughout downtown outdoors.
 


MAY


Home & Lifestyle Show

May 11
A trade show displaying local businesses to promote and connect with the community, explore home and lifestyle solutions. An annual central event to shop, compare, try and buy.


JUNE


StrEATS FEST

June 1
A foodie delight to enjoy the largest one-day food truck fest with dozens of trucks, beer tasting/gardens located downtown.

1913 Days

June 15 & 16
A cultural and historical event celebrating Sylvan Lake’s history brought back in time. With a French origin, enjoy the French Market, have fun at the penny carnival or watch the soapbox derby. It will be a full day of fun for the whole family.

 

Battle at the Beach

June 15 & 16
An epic street hockey tournament with NHL player Colin Fraser on Lakeshore Drive.

Centerfield Music Festival

June 29 & 30
Kick off the summer with a headliner music festival with some of the country’s brightest stars in country and rock & roll over two days.


JULY


Canada Day

July 1
Celebrate the day rich with Canadiana experiences! From food trucks with poutine, beaver tails, maple delights to Canadian invented games like lacrosse and basketball, enjoy the day…everything Canadian, eh!


AUGUST


JAWS at the Lake

August 4
A popular event! Enjoy an experience with a classic movie out on the lake from Lakefront Park. A water featured summer movie will be playing.

Multi-Sport at the Lake

August 11
Open water swimming at the lake, featuring Triathlon, Family Fun Relay, AquaBike and Duathlon events.

Jazz at the Lake

August 17
Enjoy the day with performance of jazz music throughout the afternoon by the Lake.

Info Night Fun Fest

August 23
An information evening highlighting local non-profit organizations and groups for registrations with carnival games.

Varsity Hall Dance

August 24
Celebrate the end of summer with an old-fashioned hall dance…with a twist on some new music! A community dance with music from the eras.

Culinart! A Food, Drink & Art Walk

August 31
Join a culinary and art experience with food locations at local restaurants on Lakeshore Drive with specialty appetizers, drinks, music and art. Stations and locations along Lakeshore Drive and Centennial Street will provide a ‘walk’ from place to place.


SEPTEMBER


A Harvest Dinner

September 27
A long table dinner experience on the lakefront, with a farm to fork style. Featuring a five-course meal from local restaurants, farms, bakeries and breweries with local entertainment.

 

Flannel & Feast Festival

September 28
A celebration of Arts, Culture & Heritage for Alberta Culture Days, the festival is full of arts, music, entertainment and activities on Centennial Street.


OCTOBER


Spooktacular

October 26
Ghosts, witches, pirates and all monsters in between…enjoy an afternoon of games, bouncy castles, and CANDY! Have a hauntingly good time showing off your costume.

Trick or Treat Downtown

October 31
A popular event! Enjoy strolling downtown for all kinds of candy! Participating businesses enjoy seeing all the trick or treaters. 


NOVEMBER


No Stone Left Alone

November 5
An event to honour the sacrifice and service of Canada’s military by educating students and placing poppy stones on the headstones of veterans.

SOUP! Empty Bowls Festival

November 9
A festival to bring arts and community together and support information about hunger and the local Food Bank in the community. Enjoy a bowl of soup with your choice of a hand painted bowl! 

Spirit of Sylvan Yuletide Festival

November 29 & 30
A Christmas celebration full of traditions. Shopping and entertainment are promoted throughout the festival with gingerbread house and ugly sweater contests, kids zones, raffles and auctions. 

Breakfast with Santa

November 30
Santa has come to town to have breakfast! Enjoy time with him and have a visit. A special time to share your wish list and talk with Santa.

Light Up the Lake

November 30
A celebration on Lakeshore with a parade and firework display at the pier.


DECEMBER


Santa on the Lake

December 13
Skate with Santa on the Lake as an experience to enjoy a new tradition.

Stocking Stuffer Market

December 14
An artisan handmade market focusing on local makers and artists to sell goods. This market is one-of-a-kind in the delivery of creativity with artisans and makers.


EXTENDED EVENTS


Winter Village

November 30 – March 30

The Winter Village is full of lights on the pier throughout the winter. Christmas themed decorated planters from local businesses are on display.

Centennial Street Market

Saturdays during the summer

An atmosphere of arts and music on Centennial Street throughout the summer on Saturdays. Enjoy the artisan market and musicians in artist alley and on the sidewalks.

Outdoor Movie Nights

Every Thursday during the summer

A popular favourite and tradition for the summer months. Outdoor movie nights featured on Thursdays with a variety of movies. Food trucks will be on location for snacks and treats.
